Celebrity Homes: Buy a Connecticut Home by Frank Lloyd Wright – The classic hemicycle design overlooks the Noroton River in New Canaan.
You’ve heard of Fallingwater, was built in 1955 and is now on the market for $8 million. Sitting on a lush 15-acre parcel, which includes a waterfall, the residence overlooks the Noroton River in New Canaan, Connecticut, and is designed in a classic hemicycle—a favorite shape of Wright’s.
Inside, iconic Wright features include soaring glass walls, gold-leaf chimneys, and wood finishes. There are seven bedrooms and eight and a half baths, as well as a pool, a tennis court, a large barn and guest studio, and a rooftop observatory complete with a telescope.
The home isn’t just for architecture fans; nature lovers will certainly be inspired by the paths that wind through the woods and down to the river.
In addition to his houses, Wright designed original and innovative offices, churches, schools, skyscrapers, hotels, museums and other structures. He often designed interior elements for these buildings as well, including furniture and stained glass. Wright wrote 20 books and many articles and was a popular lecturer in the United States and in Europe. His colorful personal life often made headlines, most notably for the 1914 fire and murders at his Taliesin studio. Wright was recognized in 1991 by the American Institute of Architects as “the greatest American architect of all time”
