Maroon 5′s lead singer Adam Levine matched his retro musical style with his architectural style in his 40′s style ranch house in Hollywood Hills California. His house was meticulously put together with his longtime friend, Mark Haddawy, a 20th-century-design collector.
Throughout the renovation they tore down walls making the four bedroom house into just one, that is probably why he recently moved out of this house for a larger one. They implemented concrete floors and rosewood paneling throughout. Carrara marble was installed in the bathrooms to embody the different textures throughout the house. Everything seamlessly worked together to create a wholesome mid-century style. The designer Mark was obsessive about the furniture being brought into the house. They tried at least 30 different Persian carpets to find one that accomplished the contrast with the mid century furniture.
Being featured on Architectural Digest the description of the room is, “The living room is a well-edited haven of vintage pieces: a Dunbar sofa in Maharam mohair velvet, a Stilnovo floor lamp from Lewis Trimble Decorative Arts & Antiques, a Jean Prouvé cocktail table, a Hans J. Wegner Ox chair from Michael Weisberg, and a Ludwig Mies van der Rohe daybed. The 1920s Persian carpet and pillows covered in antique Caucasian textiles are from Samuel’s Rug Galley. A Mark Seliger portrait of Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg is displayed against the living room’s rosewood-paneled wall; the circa-1960 sideboard is by Arturo Pani.”
The stainless-steel kitchen features a table by Florence Knoll from Metro Retro Furniture with a set of Arne Jacobsen chairs; the vintage light fixture is by Stilnovo, the espresso machine at right is by Miele, the wine cooler below it is by Viking, the sink fittings are by Dornbracht, and the range is by Thermador.
The ’40s bed is paired with vintage Fritz Henningsen armchairs from Denmark 50; the work above the headboard is by Jean-Michel Basquiat, the black-and-white portrait is of Tupac Shakur, the lamp is by Philippe Starck, and the cowhide carpet is by Pure Rugs.
An array of photographs, including portraits of Kurt Cobain, Bob Dylan, and Stevie Wonder with Bob Marley, decorates the wall and One end of the master bedroom includes a Wurlitzer baby grand piano, a custom-made ottoman, and a work on paper by Ed Ruscha.
