Bruce Willis, the likeable Hollywood action hero, star of Die Hard and Pulp Fiction, usually wins the day on screen. But when it comes to shifting his house, it turns out he is just like the rest of us. Get to know Bruce Willis house, the place here he used to live!
Well, sort of. The amounts involved still suggest “megastar” rather than “ordinary bloke”. Willis has been trying to sell his Beverly Hills mansion. At first he put it on the market for £13.2 million ($22 million), in May 2013. Then in August it was reduced to £12 million ($20 million). Now the price has been cut to a mere £10.8 million ($18 million), almost a 20 per cent reduction on its original listing.
Willis snapped up the hacienda-style house in the Benedict Canyon area in 2004 and has lived there ever since with his wife, the model Emma Heming-Willis. The couple have a two-year-old daughter, and there is another child on the way. Willis also has three children by his first wife, Demi Moore.
The price tag reflects the substantial improvements he has made to the property. “Mr Willis bought the house for $9 million (£5.4 million), but has carried out major renovations,” explains Jeff Hyland of Hilton & Hyland, the selling agent. “He is selling because he no longer needs such a large house.”
The property was built in 1928, but has been enlarged and refurbished several times since then. Willis bought the house from Alan Ladd Jr, a well-known film producer whose finest hour came when he gave George Lucas the green light to make Star Wars.
The palatial house has a tennis court, swimming-pool, library and a hi-tech screening room, as well as 11 en suite bedrooms. Total accommodation exceeds 10,000 sq ft, and there is an acre of land attached.
Willis’s taste in furniture is eclectic, embracing everything from modern white sofas to classic leather chairs. He clearly enjoys entertaining – the state-of-the-art gourmet kitchen has an impressive eight-burner stove. There is also a chilled wine cellar and a built-in barbecue beside the covered patio.
