As is tradition, volunteers from the Washington D.C. area helped cover the White House in tinsel and holly. This year, more than 150 volunteers spent around 1,600 hours decorating the residence. In the China Room, a table is set using the china from President Ronald Reagan’s era, while President Franklin D. Roosevelt’s 1866 edition of A Christmas Carol is on display in the library. The Grand Foyer and Cross Hall recreate the “Nutcracker Suite,” which served as the White House’s first-ever official Christmas decor theme in 1961.

Visitors with a sweet tooth should pay attention to the Red Room, which is filled with peppermints, candy, and cookies, as well as the State Dining Room, which holds the traditional gingerbread house.
