Elza B. Design: How to Build a Room Like a Painting – Barbara Elza Hirsch is a French-American interior designer and principal of ELZA B. DESIGN, INC, which she created in 2007. Barbara likes to “build a room like a painting, each stroke and layer creating the final space”. Her designs bridge old with new and incorporate colors derived from nature: flora, plants, rocks, ocean, sun, sky. She loves to use splashes of eclectic touches in her stylish, textured and restful interiors. Passionate about helping her clients identify and express their style, she works with them to develop an interior in which they can feel both nurtured and renewed.
Life is too shortcoming home to a pleasant, stress-free interior is essential.
It should be accessible to all! As Oscar Wilde said: ‘One should sympathize with the color, the beauty, the joy of life.’
Based in Concord, MA, Barbara spent her childhood in Europe and Washington D.C., but moved to Paris as a young adult, where she studied Graphic Design at the Ecole Supérieure des Arts Graphiques (E.S.A.G- Atelier Met de Penninghen) and obtained her diploma as a Fashion Designer and Illustrator at the renowned Studio Berçot in Paris, France. In addition, she took classes with the Parson’s School of Design branch in Paris, France. She also holds a B.A. in Comparative Literature from the Sorbonne Nouvelle University from Paris, France. Barbara’s European roots greatly influence her design work, as does her background in Art and Fashion.
The writer/editor behind her blog: CHEZ ELZA, she was invited to travel and participate with the prestigious Blogger 19 and BlogTour NOLA. No longer blogging as regularly due to time constraints, she now shares snippets of her design process via Instagram. Barbara served as a “Designer On Call” at the Boston Design Center from January 2016 through December 2017. Barbara recently designed a colorful and versatile Furniture line for Dowel Furniture. Barbara lives in an old farmhouse with her human family, Matisse the giant cat and Flora the long-haired dachshund dog. When she is not gardening, or testing a new recipe, you can find her nestled somewhere with a book.
