Inside Celebrity Homes: Cate Blanchett’s English Mansion – According to the the UK Times, Australian born actress and two time Academy Award winner, Cate Blanchett purchased a piece of classic English real estate with her playwright husband Andrew Upton in January of this year. The UK mansion is located in East Sussex and sits on 13 acres of gorgeous English countryside. The celebrity couple purchased the property called Highwell House for about $6 million. This comes after a few notable buys and sells from the couple, one of which we missed and will get it up shortly.
East Sussex is a county in South East England. It is bordered by the counties of Kent to the north and east, Surrey to the north west and West Sussex to the west, and to the south by the English Channel.
Highwell House is an exceptional country house occupying an elevated position in the much coveted East Sussex countryside. The house is replete with original features, with many of the materials having been either reclaimed from the original site or especially hand crafted to suit the property.
The reception hall which retains the original wooden panelling, bay window with window seat, re-sculpted cornicing and large 19th century French chandelier. The drawing room with double doors leads through to the sitting room which in turn leads through to the dining room. The bespoke hand crafted kitchen/breakfast room features reclaimed English taps, as well as a large freestanding Belgian blue stone sink and worktops. The family room and large utility room with gardener’s loo complete the ground floor. The impressive solid oak staircase sweeps up to a wide galleried landing with three principal bedroom suites. The master bedroom has large bay window and solid Victorian oak fireplace, and the master bathroom has stone flagstone flooring.
There are 2 further bedrooms and 2 further bespoke bathrooms. The second floor comprises 2 double bedrooms, 2 bathrooms and attic room. A secondary staircase leads up to a lookout room in the turret. There is an array of outbuildings, which offer scope for potential including garage block with two open bay garages and garage, derelict greenhouse, derelict oast house and stables. To the front are wide solid stone steps, flanked either side by expanses of lawn, and a pond which features an island. Directly to the east of the house a black slate terrace. There is planning permission in place.
