Matt Damon is Taking up the Most Expensive Home in Brooklyn – According to the Wall Street Journal, the actor and producer is reportedly buying a penthouse in Brooklyn Heights. Not just any penthouse, either: The most expensive piece of real estate ever sold in Brooklyn.
If Damon pays the asking price of $16.645 million, it will be a record-breaking sale in the borough. The next most-expensive property? A $15.5 million townhouse bought in Cobble Hill back in 2015. Although images of the penthouse are not yet available, here is one of the other luxury units inside his new soon-to-be home, The Standish.
The building’s glam apartments range in price from a $1.29 million one-bedroom to a $2.985 million three-bedroom. Why exactly is Damon’s penthouse so much higher in price? Because it’s a combination of several units. Obviously.
Totaling up 6,218 square feet in size, the space includes six bedrooms and an expansive terrace. Each of the units boasts Austrian white oak-flooring, Bertazzoni-Italia and Bosch appliances, freestanding tubs, rain shows, and Fantini fixtures.
The penthouse itself we’re sure is a stunner, but the building is enough for any design lover to get lost down a Google rabbit hole reading about its fascinating past. Called The Standish, the gorgeous Beax-Arts structure was first built in 1903 by Brooklyn architect Frank S Lowe as a hotel. It’s also the backdrop for some notable fiction moments, as the hotel where Willy Loman had an affair in Death Of A Salesman and where Clark Kent lived in the Superman comics.
