
Celebrity Homes: Barack Obama Lived in This NYC Apartment – After graduating from Columbia University, the former president moved to Brooklyn. Though most people associate Barack Obama with the city of Chicago, the former president also lived in New York City for some time in the 1980s.
After graduating from Columbia University, the former president moved into an apartment in Brooklyn’s Park Slope neighborhood. Though Obama only occupied the top level at the time, the home has since been converted into a single-family residence, and is now on the market for $4.3 million, reports StreetEasy.

Dating back to 1903, the residence is a New Yorker’s dream, with a double parlor, five bedrooms, and an oversized garden; it’s also within walking distance to Prospect Park. The home has more than one nod to its history inside, including an original claw-foot tub in one of the three baths.
Obama was born in Honolulu, Hawaii, two years after the territory was admitted to the Union as the 50th state. He grew up mostly in Hawaii, but also spent one year of his childhood in Washington State and four years in Indonesia. After graduating from Columbia University in 1983, he worked as a community organizer in Chicago. In 1988 Obama enrolled in Harvard Law School, where he was the first black president of the Harvard Law Review. After graduation, he became a civil rights attorney and professor, teaching constitutional law at the University of Chicago Law School from 1992 to 2004.
