Celebrity News: Mel Gibson Lists Malibu Estate – Mel Gibson has listed his Malibu estate for $17.5 million, according to Trulia, and it comes with everything you could possibly need.
The Oscar-winning actor and director purchased the property in 2008 for $11.5 million from then-couple David Duchovny and Téa Leoni. Old-world design elements are visible inside and out, with brick, stone, stucco, and wood detailing, as well as a natural palette ranging from pale tans to deep browns. Even the long, faded driveway matches the aesthetic. The lengthy entrance into the home winds up behind a gated entrance, offering plenty of privacy for the 6,578-square-foot home. Although it takes design cues from another time, the house is relatively new, built only in the mid-1990s.
The entrance to the five-bedroom, five-bathroom residence opens directly into a cathedral-like living room, where wood beams and an iron chandelier decorate the two-story ceiling. A stone-lined archway highlights a series of windows, and a fireplace decorated with a dark wood mantle, crosses, and rosary beads stands out in the space. The dining room sits next to a library, where worn dark wood floors, unfinished-wood ceiling accents, another stone wall, and a carved wood fireplace can be found.
Rich tones dominate in the den, which features wood-paneled walls matching the ceiling and a stone fireplace anchoring the room. A series of glass-paneled French doors line the wall, giving the dark-colored space plenty of natural light. The master bedroom has whitewashed wood flooring with a long window seat and French doors that open to a private deck. The spacious master bath has a stand-alone claw-foot tub.
The stunning ocean view is definitely a highlight of the 5.5 acre grounds, though the detached guesthouse and separate poolhouse with a gym, spa, awning-shaded sundeck, hot tub, swimming pool, and separate lap pool aren’t too shabby either.
