Get to Know George Lucas Vineyard and Chateau – George Lucas is expanding his empire of vineyards. The Star Wars creator recently purchased a historic chateau in the Var in Provence, France, for $11.2 million, according to local French newspaper Var Matin.
The residence, known as Margüi, consists of 253 acres, including 33 acres of working vineyards, and is located just north of Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie’s Château Miraval. However, the proximity to the superstar couple’s estate is not the chateau’s biggest claim to fame.
The chateau was previously an elegant 15th century castle with Romanesque structures; it was rebuilt using sustainable, ecological materials — and the ground’s vineyards are still maintained using a similar ethos.
At the moment, the wines produced at the chateau are all grown organically, and the grapes are harvested by hand. Lucas, who also currently owns vineyards in both California and Italy, looks to be adding one more region to his count.
